About
Slocotion is an Irish based textile artist and doll maker, currently working from County Longford. Completing their bachelor's degree in animation (IADT, Dún Laoghaire, Dublin), they have since been working professionally as a doll maker for the past eight years.
Hundreds of their dolls have been sold to collectors worldwide, yet each and every doll remains completely unique, and often bespoke, as they are designed, sculpted, painted and sewn to be one of a kind.
Each doll is regarded as a delicate interactive art piece. Brought to life with posable wire limbs, layered costumes and lustrous painted faces, their designs evoke circus and carnival aesthetics with a dark dream-like edge.
When creating them, Slocotion takes inspiration from historical clown and jester attire, commedia dell’arte, pantomime theatre, drag and cabaret performance, pop surrealist sculpture, and the growing world of collectible limited edition art figures.
Their process is largely self taught, developed through years of experimentation and practical experience, and informed by their animation studies and passion for stop motion puppetry.
Over the years Slocotion has cultivated a following of collectors and enthusiasts drawn to their careful craftsmanship, playful character design, and the intimate, small-batch nature of their work. Today they continue to create and release one of a kind art dolls through monthly raffles hosted on their Patreon, their exclusive online shop (also accessed through Patreon), and through private commission.
